Figurative charcoal painting on toned paper.
This illustration is a figure study modeled after my own hand and an anatomical skull. I wanted to play with the combination of a shadowed composition placed on toned paper, this caused me to push each value darker and led to a more macabre composition.
I did not intend for the piece to portray what I now see as such a casual grasp on death, but the materials shaped the tone of the work.
